Fastest Finger First

Introduction

The main concept of this kit is to develop a Fastest Finger First quiz buzzer which can be used to know the person who pressed the buzzer fast of all among a group of people. Now a day’s quiz-type game shows are increasingly becoming popular on television. In such quiz games, fastest finger first indicators are used to test the contestant’s reaction time.

The player’s designated number is displayed with an alarm when the player presses his entry button.
In this kit, the system is very user-friendly. In this system, the user has to just press the switches. The sequence of the switch presses will be displayed on the LCD but the person who has pressed first his LED will only glow.

The whole system can be reset when required.  The user must press the buttons to sort the given data that is in sequence. The person who will sort it first the LED will glow for that user. This kit is fully dependent on the programming of the controller AT89S8253. It is programmed to check the response of the different keys. The cardinal components of this prototype are. Fastest finger first is the generally used to play the games in which there are multiple players in the game, and only one or more of them are to be selected for a particular round of the game.

There are multiple variants of the game. One way to implement the game is to provide multiple options to the user and ask them to arrange the options in a particular way, based on some particular criteria. Another way is, to ask multiple users to press a button as soon as they recognize the question. Both of them can be implemented easily.

Description

As we can see in the block diagram, there can be as many users as needed, but for demonstration purpose, here we have used 8 no of users, and the game can be played in either of the two modes as decided by the admin. As soon as the user selects any mode and then presses the start (reset here) button the game will be started. Now the participants can push the switches as per their requirement.
If the game is played in the mode, where there, the participants must arrange the 4 options provided, the in this mode only two players can participate at a time. In another mode, total 8 users can participate at a time.
8051 series of microcontrollers are used here. At89s8253 microcontroller is used to implement the device.

LEDs are There are provided momentary keys, whenever they press the key a pin on the port of the controller gets changed, and the controller senses the user input. In this way based on coding done in the controller, the controller calculates the timings. One led is there corresponding to each user and additionally one LCD is also there to display the sequence of entry.

The buzzer indicates the different operations.  LCD is 16x2 LCD of dot matrix type. For power regulations, we have used 7805 linear regulators to operate the microcontroller on 5v dc. A bridge rectifier is also used, hence either battery or the adapter or transformer, any type of power supply can be used.
Components Required

  • AT89S8253 (8051 series of microcontroller), 40 Pin DIPS
